The Mindful Manager Update 1: Life is short

We live in a world in which many people think that their anger, their point of view, their beliefs, their “me” is somehow very important. In fact, they are so important that what they think, their emotional reactions, and their “me” is the Center of the Universe.

From the Mindful Manager

BUSINESS

is
a
GAME.
You
are
a
PLAYER.
Every
moment
you
are
EITHER
playing
or
NOT.

So what does it mean that Business is a game? It means you can win or lose based on how you play. It means there is a time limit.  It means you are competing against others.

Business-is-NOT-work. Business is how you play when at work.

If you WORK then everything is a struggle. You start because you have to and you stop because you are done for the day. That is akin to being a prisoner. If you allow yourself to play the game then business is how you discover your potential. Unlike a baseball game that has nine innings, business has no starting point and no ending point. It is continuous. When you play the GAME you create joy. Not some la-la land “everything is beautiful” nonsense, we are talking about the joy of dealing with the stress, the competition, the ignorance, the crazy people, the angry people, the days when you are depressed, the times when you feel lost….there is joy in moving through life by playing as best you can for each moment that you can.
